(Bakersfield, Calif., January 2, 2009) –The Bakersfield Jam announced today that Vice President of Communications, Vance Palm has been selected by NBA Entertainment to cover play-by-play duties for the annual NBA D-League Showcase from Monday, Jan. 5 – Thursday, Jan. 8 in Orem, Utah, home of the Utah Flash.
As the NBA D-League’s 16 teams converge on Orem for four days of competition, all 16 Showcase games will be streamed via NBA Futurecast, a platform that provides live, online video streaming to fans, on nba.com/futurecast. Palm will call eight of the sixteen games, sharing the work load with Utah Flash play-by-play man, Steve Klauke.
NBA D-League Central, hosted by Rick Kamla, will air on Monday, Jan. 5 at 3 p.m. ET to discuss the latest news regarding the Showcase.
The 16 game slate compliments the season-long NBA Futurecast schedule, which features every NBA D-League game streamed live for free online. NBA TV features an NBA D-League game of the week every Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. ET with the studio show D-League Central airing 30 minutes prior to game coverage.
This is the fifth year of the NBA D-League Showcase, an event that serves as the premier destination for NBA general managers and scouts to check out the NBA D-League’s top prospects in action.
Palm has been the ‘Voice of the Jam ‘ since the team’s inception in 2006, calling the action on Bright House Networks Bakersfield. Palm grew up in Arvin and played basketball at Arvin High School, Bakersfield College and CSUB. Palm also covers high school football, CSUB basketball and hosts the travel show “On a Tank Full” for Bright House Networks. Palm has covered AFL2, ECHL hockey, NASCAR racing and professional boxing, handling blow-by-blow duties for Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions at Rabobank Arena, in Bakersfield.
In his recognizable, baritone play-by-play voice, Palm thanked Jam ownership and Bright House Networks for their part in his being chosen for the Showcase. “Without Brighthouse Networks believing in me eight years ago and (Jam owners) Stan Ellis and David Higdon bringing me in-house with the Jam, none of this would be happening…this is all a testament to having a great support system around me.”
